Session: The Anatomy of Session Border Controllers

Date: 2008-06-23
Time: 11:30:00 to 12:15:00

Session Abstract:
Session Border Controllers (SBCs) were introduced in the first half of this decade to mainly address transport of VoIP calls across disparate IP networks. Over time a diverse set of services have blossomed while a new carrier architecture has been born (IMS) which together has morphed the scale, QoS, security, media conversion, and other requirements of the SBC.

There are a range of views on which SBC approaches best address these challenges. For example, opinions vary on the appropriate feature set, the balance between software and hardware, stand alone versus integrated approaches, and centralized versus distributed architectures.

This session will hear from leading SBC product vendors – looking at their product positioning, what features they have included and/or excluded, and how they have architected and built their products to address what they see as the market requirements.
